The Quatermass Ambulance.
This is an Austin K8 Welfarer Ambulance.
Built at Longbridge in late 1947 on chassis no 512 and registered on the 9th February 1948, this vehicle was blessed by the Bishop of Reading.
It was used for general NHS duties until the County Ambulance Service became fully operational, then bought by The 7th Marquess of Downshire, and donated to the Berkshire St John's Ambulance.
It regulary attended race meetings at Ascot and Windsor plus other events.
EJB 438 achieved fame when it was used in the 1955 TV series 'The Quatermass Experiment' and was not crewed by actors but by a crew from St John's Ambulance at Bracknell.
Now fully restored it is in pristine condition and often attends classic vehicle shows.
