John was well known in the Whitchurch area and was synonymous for smoking his pipe which he did for many years and liked visiting his local pub. He was an avid cricket fan and loved watching England matches. He also enjoyed reading military books or thrillers and was an avid Clint Eastwood fan. He enjoyed comedy and loved nothing more than watching comedies with his son. His favourite was the controversial Irish comedian Dave Allen.
John was also a Grandad to his special girls as he called them - Bethany 11 and Katie 5.
They nicknamed him "Grandad Softhead" because of his soft hair and they often played hairdressers with him as the customer! He doted on the pair of them and he would have been really proud that Bethany wrote her own poem and then read it at his funeral.
In 2012 John was diagnosed with cancer of the gulllet and started various treatments throughout including Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.
Despite battling throughout he sadly passed on 12 May 2013 at the Countess of Brecknock hospice in Andover.
