David John Hamson - better known as John moved to the Whitchurch area in the 1960's.
It was then we he met his wife of 46 years, Rose, and they settled in the area for the rest of their lives together. John and Rose did everything together from socialising to DIY to holidaying in Dorset.
He started his working life in the army by serving with the Royal Engineers. He worked overseas for many of these in particular Aden, Cyprus and Singapore. Whilst he was serving in the army both of his children Gary and Mark were born. As a result of this change in his life he decided to leave the army and had a brief spell working at AWE in Tadley before joining the Whitchurch Ambulance Service in 1975.
He really enjoyed his time in the service and was involved in many serious incidents in the area, including the "Battle of the Beanfield" at Stonehenge in the 80's. When he left the service in the early 90's he took up working for Albright Engineers in Whitchurch as a Stores Manager. This meant that he could work for the same company as Rose and they spent their last working years at the same company before retiring in 2007.
