John 'Taff' Beard Award 1982.
A Hampshire Ambulanceman who wrestled a 'Gun' away from a man threatening to shoot has been presented with a commendation for bravery.
Gosport Ambulanceman Mr. John Beard (38) of Green Road, Stubbington answered a 999 call to a house in April.
Portsmouth Divisional Officer Mr. R.V. Jones said an emotionally disturbed man emerged from a bedroom holding what looked like a revolver. Mr Beard pushed the man on the bed and took the gun out of his hand, then restrained the man until Police arrived.
The gun turned out to be an imitation revolver. The commendation is for Mr. Beard's coolness and courage.
