The photograph that appeared in the Bournemouth Echo December 2017, was submitted by a friend of a former Ambulanceman (Fred Hancock) and it appeared under the title ‘Picture of the Day’. The photo shows the duty line at Christchurch Ambulance Station, at Bingham Road, Somerford in circa 1966. - Fred, who has the original, served for over 20 years from the mid 60’s until the mid 80’s. He would have been one of the staff who transferred from Hampshire to Dorset following boundary changes in April 1974.
The vehicles are (L to R) 673 FOU, 645 JCG, 423 FHO and a Bedford CA Utilicon Ambulance (sitting case). The main fleet are all Morris LD’s with the serene body built by Wadham Coachbuilders at Waterlooville. 423 FHO was registered in October 1962, followed by 673 FOU January ‘63 and finally 645 JCG in October 1963.
